My best attribute in hockey is my shot. It is an absolute bomb of a shot. A lot of that has to do with my size but a big portion of that is due to the mechanics I use when taking a shot. Your wrist and snapshots are the most common shots that one will take. Your wrist is simply loading the puck on the blade of your stick and using your top hand to flick your wrist to generate the shot power. When taking any kind of shot you want to have a low base and use your hips. That is where all the power is coming from. If you don't load the shot through your lower body, there will be no power behind it. The snapshot is simply using all the mechanics of a wrist shot except you shoot the puck using a snapping motion. This means hitting the ice a few inches before the puck to generate a flex of the stick. The flex of the stick is also what creates your power. I will get more into stick flex in a future post. The snapshot is probably;y the most useful shot because it is quick and can surprise goalies. The last and most famous is the slapshot. It entails the player winding up and driving their stick through the puck. Once again it is key to strike the ice a few inches before the puck to create flex. All the power from this shot comes from the flex and use of your hips. Some of the players with the hardest shots aren't big at all, it all comes down to mechanics and how well you learn and apply them to your game.
